We leave Page behind as we climb the long hill up and past the Navajo Power Plant which dominates the scenery. The sky is still hazy from the fire to the west and the power plant adds to the pollution. Man's need for electricity! We climb up for a long way, past many interesting rock formations that help us to forget our uphill road. Today seems like it should be relatively level but it is not! When we see the GPS readings we have gone a total of 4974 up hill! Also, today is 100 miles from Page to the next small sign of civilization and so we plan on Bill picking us up
after just 50 miles and driving us to our camping destination at the Navajo National Monument. Hence the photo below with Kit putting the bikes on the car. In the morning we will retrace our car route to where Bill picked us up and ride the rest of the way to Kayenta, but for now we areready to stop and we muse about how whether it is 50 or 80 miles we always seem like it is enough at the end of our planned ride. If you have never been to the Navajo National Monument you should put it on your "bucket list". Even better that visiting is camping there. There are two camp sites, we pick the Canyon Overlook area and as you can see, it is quite an overlook. It just doesn't get any better than views like this, and did I mention quiet? No big rigs for miles, YEA! We are all taken by the beauty and the serenity. It has been another great day.
