Day 18 Eminence to Piedmont What Goes Down Must Go Up

49.55 miles, 4:08 hours, 11.96 average

Our average was the worst today as we rode the hardest part of the Ozarks. There were several pretty darn steep hills, up out of the many river valleys. We came up with our Bicycle Theory of Gravity: What goes down must go up. Our early start again paid off, and by 9:30 am the big hills were behind us. In Ellington after 25 miles, we found a cafe for a break, cherry pie this time. Out of Ellington, we climbed a very long minor grade hill, something different for a change, and a couple short and steep. Then we had the luxury of about 20 miles of rolling countryside, through valleys, separated by a few hills, before dropping down into the Piedmont area and the Clearwater Lake. We opted for a cabin as the weather forecast is for rain. We don't mind the rain, but is just harder getting an early start. Tomorrow...our last day in Missouri?
